Bluetooth and Hearing Aids

What is Bluetooth?

Michigan Ear, Nose and Throat

Bluetooth technology allows digital electronic devices to “talk to each other” without wires. Bluetooth is used in many digital devices, such as:

  • Cell phones
  • Bluetooth enabled car stereos and car navigation systems
  • Personal stereos, such as iPods or MP3 Players
  • Computers
  • Adapters for land line telephones
  • Adapters for televisions

How is Bluetooth used with hearing aids?

Bluetooth accessories for hearing aids are paired with the hearing aids and any other Bluetooth compatible digital devices you might want to hear. A Bluetooth “streamer” provides a wireless interface between hearing instruments and other Bluetooth compatible, digital devices.

One of the best features of Bluetooth hearing aid connections with cell phones is that you can hear your telephone conversations with both ears! This helps eliminate background noise when talking on the phone, it improves speech clarity, and it lets you use your cell phone hands free!
